The Glory of Varaha Avatar
On Varaha Jayanti, devotees celebrate the divine appearance of Lord Vishnu in His third incarnation as Varaha, the mighty boar. The Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu Purana, and other sacred texts narrate how Lord Varaha appeared to protect Bhudevi (Mother Earth) when she was submerged in the cosmic waters by the demon Hiranyaksha.
With the roar of truth and the brilliance of a thousand suns, the Supreme Lord took the form of a colossal boar, dove into the dark ocean, and lifted Mother Earth tenderly on His tusks. He then fought a fierce battle with the arrogant Hiranyaksha, ultimately restoring dharma and re-establishing cosmic balance.
As the Vishnu Purana proclaims:
“He who is without beginning or end, who assumes forms for the protection of the world, appeared as the great Varaha and raised up the Earth.”
The Deeper Meaning
Every incarnation of Lord Vishnu holds a hidden spiritual teaching:
Varaha lifting Bhudevi – signifies the Lord lifting devotees from the ocean of samsara (material existence).
The battle with Hiranyaksha – symbolizes the eternal fight between dharma and adharma.
The tusks of Varaha – represent divine strength and purity, upholding the Earth in balance.
Varaha Avatar reminds us that even when the world is drowned in darkness, the Lord will descend to rescue His devotees and uphold righteousness.
How Devotees Observe Varaha Jayanti
Varaha Jayanti is observed with fasting, prayers, and chanting of sacred mantras. Devotees rise early, bathe, and offer worship with deep devotion.
Fasting (Vrat): Many keep a full-day fast and break it after evening puja.
Puja Rituals: Offerings of flowers, tulsi leaves, fruits, incense, and lamps are made to Lord Vishnu.
Sacred Recitations: Devotees chant the Varaha Stuti and Vishnu Sahasranama, meditating upon the Lord’s glory.
Temple Darshan: In sacred places like Tirumala, the Varaha shrine receives special worship on this day.
Chanting the Varaha mantra is considered highly auspicious:
“Om Namo Bhagavate Varahaya”
By sincerely chanting His name, devotees receive blessings of strength, protection, and liberation.
Blessings of Varaha Jayanti
Scriptures declare that worshipping Lord Varaha on His Jayanti destroys sins, removes obstacles, and grants the highest spiritual merit. Just as He lifted Bhudevi, He also uplifts the soul from material bondage, guiding it towards liberation.
🌺 On this sacred day, let us bow down at the lotus feet of Lord Varaha and pray:
“O Supreme Protector, just as You raised Mother Earth, kindly raise my soul from the darkness of ignorance and grant me the strength to walk on the path of dharma.”
