Why This Night is So Special
This year, Kali Jayanti and Kala Ashtami merge into a single, rare alignment — a night vibrating with unmatched spiritual potency.
Kali Jayanti marks the descent of Maa Dakshina Kali — the Kal of Kal, the Death of Death, the One beyond all limitations of time.
Kala Ashtami belongs to Shri Kaal Bhairav, the divine protector who rules over time and punishes adharma.
Even Mahākāla, Lord of Time, rests at Maa Kali’s feet, for She transcends the past, present, and future. Her force is so fierce that no ordinary deity, human, or spirit can walk beside Her in full manifestation. Only two beings are capable of keeping pace with Her unstoppable cosmic dance:
1. Shri Batuk Bhairav – The child-form of Bhairav, holding the khappar (skull bowl) in His hand, symbolising the acceptance of all creation and dissolution without fear.
2. Shri Bajrangbali (Hanuman) – Holding the dhwaja (victory flag) in His hand, unshakable in devotion and unmatched in strength, He stands as the eternal sevak of Shakti and Dharma.
Without invoking Batuk Bhairav first, it is said that approaching Maa Kali in Her full wrath is like stepping into a lightning storm without protection.

Minimalist Worship for Beginners
If you are new to Shakta sadhana, you can still observe this night in a safe, devotional way without invoking potent mantras that require guru guidance.
Step 1 – Prepare the Altar:
Place an image of Maa Dakshina Kali — ideally where saints like Sri Ramakrishna, Bamakhepa, or Ramprasad Sen are shown worshipping Her.
Beside it, place an image of Shri Batuk Bhairav (child form, with khappar in hand).
If possible, also include Shri Bajrangbali (with dhwaja in hand) to symbolise protection and victory.
If no images are available, print them on paper or draw them with devotion.
—
Step 2 – Invoke Shri Batuk Bhairav (Āvāhana)
Begin by invoking Batuk Bhairav, the protector who clears the path and shields the sadhaka from harm.
Sit calmly, focus your mind, and chant:
Om Batuk Bhairavaya Namah
or
Om Bhairavaya Namah
Take a sankalpa — state your name, father’s name, date, place, and gotra (if unknown, use “Kashyapa gotra”).
—
Step 3 – Optional Short Upachara for Bhairav
If you wish, you may offer a brief ten-step upachara:
1. Āsana – Offer a seat.
2. Pādya – Wash His feet.
3. Arghya – Offer water for welcome.
4. Ācamaniya – Offer water to sip.
5. Gandha – Apply sandal paste or fragrance.
6. Pushpa – Offer flowers.
7. Dhūpa – Offer incense.
8. Dīpa – Offer light (lamp).
9. Naivedya – Offer food.
10. Praṇāma – Bow in respect.
If time or materials are short, simply do His āvāhana and a few mantras with heartfelt prayer:
> “O Batuk Bhairav Baba, child-form of the Supreme Guardian, with khappar in hand, walk beside Maa Kali tonight and protect me from all harm. Grant me your permission and blessing to worship Her.”
—
Step 4 – Worship Maa Dakshina Kali
During the Nishita Muhurat (12:04 AM to 12:47 AM on 16th August), offer your devotion to Maa Kali.
For Beginners:
Perform three-phase pushpanjali (flower offering) to Maa Kali.
Offer one-phase praṇāma mantra to conclude.
Chant Dakshina Kalika Dhyanam and Kali Stotra.
⚠ Do not chant any bīja mantras (like “Hreem” or “Bam”) without guru guidance.

For Initiated Sadhakas
Those with Śākta abhiṣeka, pūrṇa abhiṣeka, krama dīkṣā, samrājya, or mahā-samrājya should follow their full tantric process — nyāsa, mudra, mantra-japa, homa — exactly as taught by their guru.
—
Step 5 – Closing the Ritual
Offer final flowers to Maa Kali, Batuk Bhairav, and Bajrangbali.
Express gratitude for their presence.
Partake in the prasād (offered food).
—
Spiritual Justification
Why Batuk Bhairav First? – Because only He, with His khappar, and Bajrangbali, with His dhwaja, can match Maa Kali’s force without being consumed by it. They act as escorts, protectors, and witnesses to Her cosmic play.
Why Include Bajrangbali? – His unwavering devotion and immense strength make him a perfect guardian alongside Bhairav, ensuring no harm comes to the sadhaka.
Why Minimalist for Beginners? – Without proper mantra initiation, one must not engage directly with high-voltage Shakti bījas. Devotion and humility are the safest approach.
Why This Night? – The union of Kali Jayanti and Kala Ashtami magnifies spiritual results. Even a simple prayer said with faith is magnified manifold.

Universal Safe Mantra for All
If you do nothing else, you can safely chant:
Om Kalikayai Namah
Om “kreem” kalikayai Namah .. — beeja ” kreem ” must be avoided
This mantra is devotional, not initiatory, and can be chanted by anyone with pure heart and respect.
